The scales used for assessment of the effect were-

A] For Learning Disability – Schonel’s Test, Scholastic performance.

B] Effect on mental faculties by NiMHANS Performa

Effect of drug was assessed in terms of improvement in learning skills, improvement in scholastic performance and improvement in intellectual power & memory (Dhi, Dhruti & Smriti).

The research work was concluded as follows –

When Tab Pippali  100 mg  BD was given with ½ tsf of honey for six months , to students of  7th standard ,it showed remarkable improvement in Intellectual power & learning ability

Study of the effect of ‘Vanari Gutika’ in Oligozosspermia to assess the spermatogenetic property of Vanari (Mucuna pruriens)

Title: Study of the effect of ‘Vanari Gutika’ in Oligozosspermia to assess the spermatogenetic property of Vanari (Mucuna pruriens)

Dr. A. S. Kulkarni had submitted his dissertation in 1997 Year, for the P.G. degree M.D. Dravyaguna (Ayurvedic Pharmacology). His guide was Dr. S.G. Huparikar & research center was Tilak Ayurved Mahavidyalaya, Pune (M.S.) India.

Dr. Kulkarni had done a clinical study of Vanari (Mucuna pruriens (L) DC.) for his vrushya property (To increase sperm count.) Dr. Kulkarni prepared ‘Vanarigutika’ according to the formula given by Yogaratnakar from the Vanari seeds.

For randomized placebo -controlled clinical trials total 100 male Patients of oligospermia were selected.
Two different groups of 50/50 patients were made i.e.

Group A – 50 patients were selected for test drug treatment and

Group B – 50 patients were selected for placebo treatment for 3 months (90 Day). Oligospermia patients were divided in three subgroups as mild, moderate& severe oligospermia.

Group A patients were treated with tablets of Vanarigutika 1 bd with milk after meals for 3 months & Group B patients were treated with placebo –rice flour tablets 1 bd with milk for the same period & time.

The semen analysis was carried out before treatment i.e. 1st day & after treatment last day.

The research work was concluded as follows –

Vanarigutika ( From –Yogaratnakar)  1  BD with milk after meals for 3 months, showed moderate improvement in spearm count & sperm motility

This analysis revealed that the significant improvement is seen in the mean sperm counts with the ‘Vanarigutika’ treated patients having mild & moderate categories.
The overall improvement in the sperm count with severe category patients was not significant.

Group B (Placebo treated) patients have shown no significant improvement in their sperm count.

An improvement in the seminal volume, viscosity & motility of sperms from Group A specially severe category.

In short, Vanarigutika showed a beneficial effect on sperm count in the cases of oligospermia, hence it is confirmed that Vanari (Mucuna pruriens (L) DC.) which is a chief ingredient of this drug is having a stimulating effect on spermatogenesis.

Developing & assessing the efficacy of Ayurvedic Insecticidal & Insect Repellent plants useful in Agriculture & Horticulture under laboratory field conditions.

Title: Developing & assessing the efficacy of Ayurvedic Insecticidal & Insect Repellent plants useful in Agriculture & Horticulture under laboratory field conditions.

Dr. Sanjay Thonte   had submitted his dissertation in 2000-01 year, for P.G. degree, M. Phil Ayurveda. His guide was Dr. Prof.  J. K. Barde &research center was Tilak Ayurveda Mahavidyalaya, Pune (M.S.) India.

Dr. Thonte had done an experimental study of Vidanga (Embelia ribes) & Neem (Melia azadiracta) aqueous solutions for their ‘Insecticidal’ and Insect Repellent activity.

Four fields & twelve plots were selected around Latur town of Maharashatra & four commonly used vegetables like tomato, potato, cabbage & onion were cultivated in them for this study.

These were divided into three groups for each field & each crop such as – Blank control, chemical spray of Dizinone & Thiodan & Ayurvedic herbal insecticidal spry of Vidanga & Neem decoction 50/50 blend mixed in well water in a ratio of 1:10. Neutral surfactant like liquid soap was added for smooth & uniform spray in the form of ‘mist’.

Duration of total experiment was five to six months
Criteria’s for assessment were total yield, the population of insect pests or their ‘larvae/ caterpillar’ etc.

The research work was concluded as follows-

Herbal insecticidal spry of Vidanga & Neem decoction 50/50 blend mixed in well water in a ratio of 1:10 showed nearly same results as like Chemical spray ,but with added benefits as low cost & without any Toxicity to consumer of vegetables.

1)                          According to data, one can say that Ayurvedic herbal spray was very near in effectiveness to chemical synthesis sprays.
2)                          In Ayurvedic herbal insecticides no toxicity was found but chemical synthetic sprays are known to harmful to humans & domestic animals, birds etc.
3)                          Ayurvedic Preparations was found cost effective, easy to handle, easy to prepare.
4)                          In case of tomato, cabbage & onion crops, Ayurvedic insecticide is admirable but less effective in comparison with chemical spray.
5)                          In case of potato crop, ayurvedic preparation was failed to save the crop.
6)                          Chemical pesticides had killed the insect, but the Ayurvedic preparations made the insects & caterpillars feeble, dazed, paralytic & miserable. They tend to go away from the plant but do not die instantaneously. They showed anti- feedant activity.
